Language used on 24

24.gif"He's in the kernels"?
"I have to stay away from the pre-compiled headers"?

I used to get really annoyed at the tech language used on 24. It's so wrong that it's maddening. After 3 seasons you'd think they could afford to hire at least one script supervisor who knew tech lingo and how to use it.

Now I think it's a big joke. Either they realized the jargon used in the first few seasons was horribly wrong and they figured they might as well continue the trend, or they really do have a script supervisor who is fooling everyone else on set by convincing them that the words they are speaking make sense. I'd like to think it's the latter.

So keep it up 24. Here are some good sentences which make absolutely no sense but would sound great on the next episode:

"Flash the firewall again and see if that fixes it."
"We've lost email connectivity due to a virus hacking the CAT-6 cable."
"Port the LAN to my workstation."

We still have live TV in 2005?

live.jpgI find it so hard to believe that after a year which began with Janet Jackson's scandalous breast and ended with Monday Night Football's horrifying naked back that not 15 minutes into 2005 we're greated with an F-bomb on live TV courtesy of Motley Crue and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Shame on you. Shame on you NBC for not using a 5 second delay. Really. In this day and age where provocative people are provoked to do provocative things, how could you be so irresponsible? Haven't we learned that live TV is too dangerous and uncontrollable for our innocent little eyes and ears? When will it all end?

Pet Peeve - Fractions of a Penny

.50 cent refillsI'd like to try paying for something mis-marked like this with a penny and ask for change. Or maybe cut a penny in half and try paying with that. I think there's some law which says that merchants must honor the price as marked, although maybe not in the UK.

The Frickin' Bashslash

It's December 2004 and there's still at least one dumb marketing fuck out there who thinks that URLs have backslashes in them. Check out this ad for Polaroid which features the URL "www.Polaroid.com\baby" - *twice* no less.
