33 going on 13

On a recent Wednesday night I had the opportunity to transport myself back to junior high, thankfully without the braces and headgear. While my previous dungeon master Donald Chen and campaign members Kaz Tanaka, Charlie Bandies, and Noam Bernstein couldn't make it, Ben Plowman, Stephanie Federico, Gus Reiber, Eric Spurlock and DM Denis O'Connell were more than happy to step in. What ensued can only be described as pure, chaotic mayhem. Tables were overturned. Mead was spilled. Orcs were killed. The bard sang. Pixels from each defining moment are immortalized on flickr. www.flickr.com

(In case anyone is paying close attention, these pictures were taken when I was 33, despite the fact that I am one year older now.)

I'm a winner!

archivasSmall.gifHello Archivas,

A while back we held a lab naming contest. Many valid entries were submitted, but in the end I have to go with one of Russ Neufeld's entries (he submitted a LOT). Therefore, and to wit, the lab areas are now named as follows:

(smaller, old machine room): Skylab, aka "arcsky", aka "sky"

(larger, newer lab space): Sealab, aka "arcsea", aka "sea"

I liked the brevity, the bisyllabic pronunciation, the easy conversion to short familiar forms, and the contextual fit. The smaller lab area is awfully noisy, and feels like you're around jet turbines... there's also a nod to Olympian mythology with our corporate servers being housed in there. The newer and larger space is humid all the time in this weather and from our Liebert cooling unit, so it even feels a bit wet and coastal when you're in there.

Many thanks to all who participated! I will get the rooms labelled right away and see if I can draft Gus to make some cool signs.
